“VeggieTales Remix” Television Show Wraps Production in Oklahoma

Production has wrapped on “VeggieTales Remix”, a new half-hour children’s show based on “VeggieTales”, the most successful children’s faith-based franchise of all time. “VeggieTales Remix” takes some of the most memorable, poignant and hilarious moments from the brand’s 25-year library and remixes them into a vibrant new show format. Hosted by “VeggieTales” super fan and social media star Shama Mrema, the show features interactions with real-life kids, quizzes for die-hard “Veggie fans” and new live-action music videos based on the beloved Silly Songs with Larry.

“’VeggieTales Remix’ is a show for new and old fans alike,” said producer Eric Newman. “It’s a celebration of what we all love most about the classic show — the humor, heart and inspiring lessons from the Bible.”

The live portions of “VeggieTales Remix” were filmed at Retrospec Films’ studio in Tulsa, and the new remixed songs were produced by Tulsa-based music producer Stephen Tackett. “It’s an honor to work with such a legendary brand as ‘VeggieTales’,” said director and Retrospec Founder Jason Burks. “It’s always fun when we can feature talent from the local community here in Oklahoma and share the film making experience with so many!”

The first music videos from the show, “The Hairbrush Song Remix” and “The Water Buffalo Song Remix”, were directed by Burks and are featured on the newest VeggieTales release, “The Best Christmas Gift”, which premiered October 22 on DVD and digital download by Universal Pictures Home Entertainment, a global distribution company headquartered in London. The Christmas special was directed by animation veteran Todd Waterman (“Transformers Prime”, “Mulan”) and written by original creator Phil Vischer, who reprises his role as Bob the Tomato, alongside co-creator Mike Nawrocki as Larry the Cucumber. “The Best Christmas Gift” also features VeggieTales newcomer, NAACP® Image Award-winning actor and comedian, David Mann (“Tyler Perry’s Meet the Browns”, “Mann & Wife”) as the voice of Mr. Nezzer.

“VeggieTales Remix” is slated to begin broadcasting on TBN during the Christmas season alongside the premier of an all new “VeggieTales” 3D animated series produced by TBN and Big Idea Content Group.

In recent years, TBN has led the way in expanding the impact of faith-based television worldwide through the creation of innovative content designed to reach every viewer demographic with the life-changing message of hope and grace. As part of their expansion, TBN will leverage the new “VeggieTales” animated series as well as the “VeggieTales Remix show across their multiple platforms.

“Our office is thrilled that such an iconic series in children’s television has established a production hub in our state,” said OF+MO Director Tava Maloy Sofsky. “Television shows are a great resource for providing long-term job opportunities to local industry members, and we’ve loved working with the ‘Veggie Tales Remix’ production team.”
