“The Scent of Rain and Lightning” Announces U.S. Theatrical Release and Distribution

SP Releasing has acquired the U.S. distribution rights for the western-thriller “The Scent of Rain and Lightning” and will simultaneously release the film in theatres and on-demand platforms beginning February 16, 2018, through the company’s output deal with Echo Bridge Releasing.

“The Scent of Rain and Lightning” was filmed in Oklahoma utilizing the Oklahoma Film Enhancement Rebate Program administered by the Oklahoma Film + Music Office (OF+MO) and began production in the state on October 27, 2015, creating 301 Oklahoma jobs throughout its 22-day shoot. With a total qualified Oklahoma spend over $2 million dollars, the positive economic impact of the production benefitted many communities throughout the state including the film’s primary shooting locations in Okarche, Guthrie, Spencer and Oklahoma City.

Local audiences can see “The Scent of Rain and Lightning” this weekend at the AMC Quail Springs Mall 24 in Oklahoma City. Additionally, the film will be shown in select cities, including Los Angeles, Chicago, Kansas City, Phoenix, Houston, Dallas, Boston and more. “The Scent of Rain and Lightning” will be available on DVD beginning March 20, 2018, following its theatrical and on-demand release.

Based on the best-selling novel by Nancy Pickard, “The Scent of Rain and Lightning” boasts an all-star ensemble cast, including Maika Monroe (“Independence Day: Resurgence”), Mark Webber (“Scott Pilgrim vs. the World”), Will Patton (“Remember the Titans”), Bonnie Bedelia (“Die Hard”), Justin Chatwin (“The War of the Worlds”), Brad Carter (“True Detective”), Logan Miller (“The Walking Dead”), Aaron Poole (“The Samaritan”) and Maggie Grace (“Lost”).

Grace also served as one of the film’s producers alongside Michael Davis and fellow Oklahomans Kevin Waller of Gerson Productions as well as Jeff Johnson, Casey Twenter and Jeff Robison of NoCoast Entertainment. The latter trio previously produced two additional films in Oklahoma, “The Jogger” and “Rudderless”, both of which also utilized the state’s film incentive program.
