The Oklahoma Film + Music Office (OF+MO) is proud to sponsor the second annual Oklahoma Songwriters Festival. Kicking off Thursday, June 1, 2017, with a VIP sponsor reception, the three-day event culminates in a Songwriter Showcase on Saturday, June 3, at the ACM Performance Lab in Bricktown.
“I wanted to create a songwriting event that would bring a little Nashville to Oklahoma. I grew up in the state and I’m still blown away at the huge amount of Okie musical talent,” said Festival Founder and Ada, Oklahoma, native Zac Maloy. “I wanted to nurture that and show off my home state to some of my peers. Year one was such a success, we knew we had something special.”
Performances and educational panels will be presented by prolific Nashville songwriters including Marcus Hummon, Grammy winner and two-time Nashville Songwriter’s Association International Songwriter’s Hall of Fame nominee and writer of “Bless the Broken Road” (Rascal Flatts) and “One of These Days” (Tim McGraw) to name a few; Clint Lagerberg, Grammy, ACM and Billboard Music Award-nominated songwriter/producer and writer of songs performed by Blake Shelton, Keith Urban and Josh Kelley; Levi Hummon, Nashville-based writer who has worked with notable songwriters including Jimmy Robbins, Shane MacAnally, Andrew Dorff, Josh Osborne and the legendary Steven Tyler; and Zac Maloy, former front man of The Nixons who has toured internationally and written with Daughtry, 3 Doors Down, Blake Shelton and wrote Carrie Underwood’s number one song “Temporary Home”. Select local Oklahoma songwriters will be invited to participate in private writing sessions during the festival.
The 2017 festival will include a daytime Songwriting Camp co-presented by OF+MO and The Paramount held on Saturday, June 3, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Paramount Room on historic Film Row. Free to the public, the camp will include interactive panel discussions and Q&A sessions with the Nashville songwriters. Attendees will learn secrets to successful songwriting and gain insight into aspects of publishing, licensing and music business. The camp will also feature a workshop where the featured songwriters will break down the specifics of how they wrote their chart-topping hits. During the camp, there will be a drawing to win a private lunch and mentor session with Zac Maloy and Marcus Hummon immediately following the camp, as well as other giveaways.
“We are proud to partner with the festival again this year and are especially excited to co-present the Songwriting Camp, as we believe it will have a positive effect on the music industry in Oklahoma. The camp will be an incredible opportunity for Oklahoma singer/songwriters of all levels to learn and network with their peers. This festival is truly a once in a lifetime occasion and we hope to see you there,” says OF+MO Director Tava Maloy Sofsky.
The Songwriter Showcase will take place Saturday, June 3, at 7:00 p.m at the ACM Performance Lab in Bricktown. Using a format frequently used in Nashville, this “writer round” presentation will allow the songwriters the opportunity to perform their original songs and tell stories of how they were created. Local Oklahoma artists Beau Jennings and Kaitlin Butts will also perform. This is a ticketed event, with a VIP option available, which includes preferred seating and the opportunity to attend a meet-and-greet with the artists before the show.
