Oklahoma Film + Music Office Takes Flight with Thunderbird Drone Festival Partnership

The Oklahoma Film and Music Office (OF+MO) is proud to be a partner of the second annual Thunderbird Drone Festival in Woodward, Okla., August 12-13. The Thunderbird Drone Festival is Oklahoma’s first and only drone film and photo festival and drone technology event, and the only drone event of its kind in the Midwest.

“Thunderbird Drone Festival is excited to partner with the Oklahoma Film + Music Office for our second annual event as they play a vital role in the growth of the film and music industries in Oklahoma,” said Thunderbird Drone Festival Director Chris Castor. “With an event as unique as ours, their support and involvement is paramount to our festival as we highlight the fascinating, fun and creative world of drone and UAS technology and their scientific and industrial applications.”

Last year’s inaugural festival welcomed nearly 300 attendees from five different states, and this year looks to build on that foundation with two days of events and activities, including an international film festival, drone technology panels and classes and first-person view (FPV) races and demos.

Recently certified ‘film friendly’ after completing the requirements of the Oklahoma Film Friendly Community Program, Woodward will host the Thunderbird Drone Festival at both the Woodward Arts Theatre and the Woodward County Event Center. As part of its sponsorship of the festival, OF+MO will exhibit at the film festival and preceding awards ceremony in promotion of the state’s film industry and related workforce, infrastructure and drone technologies.

“Film production and aerospace technologies are both incredible industries that positively impact Oklahoma,” said OF+MO Director Tava Maloy Sofsky. “We’re excited to participate at the Thunderbird Drone Festival on this incredibly special event, which celebrates and provides further education and resources in these fields, while spotlighting film friendly rural communities like Woodward.”
