MovieMaker Magazine has released its annual list of the “Best Places to Live and Work as a Moviemaker” with Oklahoma City ranking among the nation’s top fifteen big cities for film production in North America in 2018.
The publication ranks each city on the list based on a number of criteria, including film incentives offered by the city and/or state, the number of film productions in the last twelve months, the amount of film infrastructure and other statistical data related to the city’s local economy, geography and culture.
The Oklahoma Film + Music Office (OF+MO) administers the state’s film incentive program that offers qualified film productions a 35-37% cash rebate for monies spent on local services and goods. A number of productions that have utilized the program filmed throughout the state with Oklahoma City helping set the scene for eight feature films last year, including the upcoming releases “I Can Only Imagine”, “The Chickasaw Rancher” , “The Jurassic Games” and “Whaling”, to name a few.
In addition to highlighting the state’s rebate program, MovieMaker Magazine praises Oklahoma City’s continued momentum and infrastructure noting the continued growth of the deadCENTER Film Festival as well as Circle Cinema’s expansion from Tulsa to Oklahoma City’s Stockyard District with the opening of Rodeo Cinema later this year.
