“Gosnell” to Begin Filming in Oklahoma

Hat Tip Films LLC in association with the Oklahoma Film + Music Office is pleased to announce production of the upcoming feature film “Gosnell” to begin filming in Oklahoma. The film is being produced by Hat Tip Films with Producers Phelim McAleer, Ann McElhinney and Magda Segieda; and Executive Producer John Sullivan.

“Gosnell” is based on the true story of Dr. Kermit Gosnell, an abortion doctor in Philadelphia who was convicted of murder in 2013 based on his unlawful practices during abortion procedures which resulted in multiple deaths. Described by Terry Moran, co-anchor of ABC’s “Nightline”, as “America’s most successful serial killer,” Gosnell is suspected of killing hundreds, perhaps thousands, during his practice which he ran for nearly thirty years. The film tells the story of the detectives and prosecutors who finally brought Gosnell to justice.

The film was funded through a record-breaking crowdfunding campaign which raised over $2.3 million from 28,000 people, making “Gosnell” the most successful film ever on the Indiegogo funding platform.

“We are so grateful to all those people who helped fund Gosnell to ensure the story is told. They have placed huge trust in us, and we are grateful for that. We will not let them down,” said Producer Ann McElhinney.

“Gosnell” is being directed by actor Nick Searcy (“Justified”, “Cast Away”, “Moneyball”) who previously helmed the independent film “Carolina Low” and is “delighted to be working in Oklahoma”.

“We’ve been made very welcome by Oklahomans who care about the project and want to see the film succeed,” said Producer Phelim McAleer. “In addition, the Oklahoma Film Enhancement Rebate Program is a huge bonus that makes filming here even more attractive.”

“With many states offering film incentives, producers have several options to consider when shooting on-location. The combination of our competitive rebate program and diverse locations make Oklahoma a prime filming destination for producers,” said OF+MO Director Tava Maloy Sofsky. “We are excited to see how Oklahoma is transformed to Philadelphia on-screen and grateful for the job opportunities the production will provide our local cast, crew and film-friendly businesses.”

“Gosnell” will utilize the Oklahoma Film Enhancement Rebate Program administered by the Oklahoma Film + Music Office. Principal photography on the film will begin in Oklahoma City and the surrounding community September 22.
