deadCENTER Film Festival Hosts Free Screenwriting Event at OCU

deadCENTER Film is partnering with Oklahoma City University (OCU) and the Oklahoma Film + Music Office (OF+MO) to host a free Screenwriting Seminar on Saturday, January 27, 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. on the OCU campus. The event will be held in Room 100 of the Sarkey’s Science and Math Center, at the corner of 23rd Street and Kentucky Ave in Oklahoma City.

The writing workshop, “Writing the Visual Story”, is a three-hour intensive exploring early stages of screenplay development, with an emphasis on enhancing the visual elements of story, plot, conflict and characterization. Earlier this month, a call for entries was held during which the first 65 participants to submit a one-page treatment of an in-progress screenplay (short or feature) were evaluated and selected for participation. With great response, this workshop is now at capacity.

Leading the workshop are three OCU film professors: Bryan Cardinal-Powell, Department Chair and Emmy Award-winning filmmaker; Billy Palumbo, Visiting Professor and award-winning experimental filmmaker; and Matt Payne, screenplay consultant and television writer for “24”, “Without a Trace” and “Vegas”.

“The Oklahoma Film + Music Office is proud to support deadCENTER’s ongoing commitment to provide educational opportunities for our state’s film industry,” said OF+MO Director Tava Maloy Sofsky. “We look forward to our continued partnership with the organization throughout their events this year.”

This free screenwriting event is sponsored by the deadCENTER Film Festival, Oklahoma City University Petree College of Arts and Sciences, Oklahoma City University School of Visual Arts and OF+MO.
