City of Durant Achieves Film Friendly Certification

The Oklahoma Film + Music Office (OF+MO), in conjunction with the City of Durant, the Durant Chamber of Commerce and FilmDurant, is proud to announce the city has achieved film friendly certification after completing the requirements for OF+MO’s Oklahoma Film Friendly Community Program.

Known as the “Magnolia Capital of Oklahoma,” Durant offers unique small-town charm and highly celebrated Native American heritage in Southeast Oklahoma, which can be seen in unique locations throughout the city, including Opera Coffee House, Fort Washita, Choctaw Casino & Resort and Southeastern Oklahoma State University to name a few.

“Receiving our film friendly certification is a great opportunity for the City of Durant that will allow us to have a voice in the projects that we can bring into our city,” said Janet Reed, Executive Director of the Durant Area Chamber of Commerce. “We would like to thank FilmDurant for assisting in driving this process forward by initiating the film permit as well as the extensive location scouting for the locations database, so that we as a city can be included in the Oklahoma Film Friendly Community Program. Our incorporation into the Oklahoma Film Friendly Community Program will allow our ‘City of Magnolia’s’ to bloom on screens around the world.”

Durant is the first city in Bryan County to achieve ‘film friendly’ certification through the Oklahoma Film Friendly Community Program and the 22nd community overall since the program’s reimagining in early 2021.

“Our colleagues at the Durant Chamber of Commerce and FilmDurant have always taken a proactive approach to showcase what makes their community and the Southeastern Oklahoma region so special,” said OF+MO Director Tava Maloy Sofsky. “We’re elated with their most recent efforts to continue building on that foundation with their film friendly certification, and we look forward to our continued collaboration, which we hope will bring more film and television production to their area.”
