Featured Location for August 2019: The Auditorium at The Douglass

Once known as the “Pride of the Eastside”, Douglass High School was a center of creativity 1934–1955. It remains the oldest school building still in existence in Oklahoma City and is listed on the National Registry of Historic Sites. The predominantly African-American high school was repurposed as elementary and middle schools through the mid-90s and then sat abandoned for twenty-five years until finding new life and transforming into The Auditorium at The Douglass, a state of the art event center.

Seating up to 725 people on the main floor and balcony, The Auditorium at The Douglass is a multi-purpose state-of-the-art theatre and performing arts venue equipped to provide the perfect setting for small or large entertainment and educational productions. The high fidelity sound system, professional LED lighting system and projection equipment make it an outstanding venue for concerts, theatrical productions, seminars, films and special events. A large event room below the auditorium provides additional support and functionality for productions, and it should be noted the remaining areas of the former Douglass High School have been re-purposed as affordable, modern apartments.

The Auditorium at The Douglass is a film-friendly location that recently hosted the feature film production “Breaking Them Up”, currently filming in-state utilizing the Oklahoma Film Enhancement Rebate Program, and will soon set the stage in September for a special concert featuring Patty Griffin and Oklahoma Music Trail Rhythm & Routes Honoree John Fullbright.
