STORYLINE
Derek is a college student who is staying at his family’s upper middle-class home for the summer to help care for his ailing mother. He is lured out for the night by his childhood best friend, Tyon, and his new buddy, Kevin. In a “borrowed” new Dodge Charger the three young men depart the suburbs, heading for a nearby party to meet some pretty girls and – with any luck – a fun night of debauchery. Halfway to their destination, the guys find themselves re-routed through a very wealthy, very gated community. They become lost within its walls, and among its affluent residents.
Before they can find their way out they witness a man murder a woman inside his home. Temporarily managing to evade the murderer’s pursuit, the three begin a terrifying journey through the community, contending with the various forces hunting them as well as dealing with the widening rifts between them. As the night wears on, the tensions rise along with the body count. Alliances and assumptions on all sides will be stretched to the breaking point. If justice is going to prevail, the community’s darkest secrets must be forced into the light.
But our three young protagonists have the truth on their side. And within “The Gates” – absolutely nothing is more dangerous.
BREAKDOWN OF ROLES
[CHRISTOPHER] 45 to 60 years old, White man. Tall, built like a former lineman. Not a man of many words, but when he does speak, his booming voice carries confidence and conviction. A native Texan that’s traveled the country, he holds traditional values but he’s also learned to find common ground with just about anyone. He prides himself in being able to read a man, and he answers to no one but the almighty. MAJOR SUPPORTING
[DEPUTY BOB CHAMBERS (BOBBY)] 25 to 35 years old, White man. Baby-faced. A young cop that takes his job seriously, he believes he can make snap judgments based on his experience – which he does, in this case, with the best intentions and the worst results. A man of faith, he believes that Jacob speaks the will of Christ, and he sees no reason to ever doubt his intentions. MAJOR SUPPORTING
[ELIZABETH] 22 to 30 years old, White woman. A classic Texas beauty. Men have always been drawn to her, which is why she’s attracted to the one that’s just out of reach – Jacob, whose charm and charisma pair perfectly with his unavailability. Making him desire her was easy; securing his commitment has proven more complicated. And hell hath no fury like a woman scorned – especially when there’s whiskey in this teacup. SUPPORTING
[OFFICER HORTON] 35 to 45 years old, White man. Resting cop-face. An experienced, no-BS officer that strives to serve his community but doesn’t realize how his past experiences have created subtle biases. Despite this flaw, he wants to do what’s right, and he’s not too old to learn from his mistakes. SUPOORTING
[JULISSA] 20 to 25 years old, Mixed Ethnicity woman. Smart, responsible, professional. Despite her youth, she’s already the best nurse at the hospital, and she still finds time to come home to care for her ailing mother. She also happens to be the attractive big sister that has seen her little brother’s friends grow up with crushes on her, and she tolerates their flirtation with a combination of patience and amusement. [KENDRA] 35 to 45 years old, Black woman. Elegant, educated, beautiful, very fit and proper. An Omarosa or Candace Owens type. She is well put together and fits right into this posh gated community. But she had to work to get there, and has the fighter’s mentality and cunning that got her to this position, and is now maybe a bit defensive about holding her position. SUPPORTING
[ROXY] 20 to 25 years old, White woman. Tattoos, rock-chic hair and attitude. Confident and sexy in a way that young men might fall for, but any lesbian would immediately know she’s only for the girls. SUPPORTING
[SHERRY] 45 to 60 years old, Black woman. The only remaining parent of two young adults she’s very proud of. Once a do-it-all mom who juggled a successful career with parenthood, her energy is now tragically sapped by her ongoing battle with cancer, and she draws strength from her loving children. FEATURED
[PRESTON] 20 to 25 years old, White man. Fratty. Rich parents mean he was born into elevated social status. He throws a hell of a party, and he always expects to land the most attractive girl in attendance – because he usually does. FEATURED
[THAD] 20 to 25 years old, White man. Fratty, psyched on the house. Calls Preston his best friend because Preston allows him to. The consummate wing man. FEATURED
[XAVIER] 20 to 25 years old, White man. Talks like he grew up in the hood, likes the idea of having black friends but never really did. But he raps like a gen-z Eminem. FEATURED
[TIFFANY/SHAYNE] 22 to 28 years old, woman. Any ethnicity. Beautiful girls seen on the phone. Pro-level skills at flirting with the camera, enticing the boys to come to a party. FEATURED
