Music Artists for September 2019: Steelwind

The unique Steelwind sound originates from co-songwriters Blake Parks and Michael Henneberry. This year marks their ten year anniversary of writing songs and playing music together. Throughout the years their style has progressed into a recognizable blend of tight harmonies and bluegrass instrumentation that’s appealing to all ages. The full band is Blake Parks on fiddle/vocals, Michael Henneberry on guitar/vocals, Joel Parks on banjo/vocals, Becca Herrod on mandolin/vocals, Adam Davis on dobro, and Kenny Parks on bass.

After releasing their popular album F5 in 2016, fans are excited to hear new music from Steelwind on their latest album, Blue, that released in June 2019. Since their album release show at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, multiple reviews have genuinely complimented the band’s new tracks. Rick Reiley with The Corridor Magazine says, “The arrangements are tight, joyous, pulsing, and filled with a fervent desire to celebrate all life has to offer. It’s a fine collection from some fine youngsters who have their feet on solid ground.”

From playing intimate listening rooms to major festivals, these young and talented musicians bring a fresh new sound to the bluegrass world. Steelwind has played with the likes of Darrel Scott, Tony Rice, The SteelDrivers, Byron Berline and Asleep at the Wheel, to name a few. In addition to their impressive instrumentation, audiences fall in love with their special fusion of harmonies and heartfelt lyrics.

“Growing up an Okie I’ve been lucky to have so many musical influences, such as Byron Berline,” said Blake Parks, fiddle player and co-writer for Steelwind. “I love creating music in Oklahoma that’s also bringing a fresh sound to the bluegrass genre. For me, it’s really special sharing the stage with my brother, dad, and close friends.”
