Formed in Stillwater, Oklahoma, Colourmusic has been making warped, experimental tunes for well over a decade now. They formed in 2005 when Ryan Hendrix persuaded British Nick Turner to come to Oklahoma to record an EP devoted to the color red. “We hated each other’s music,” said Turner, “But we didn’t have anyone else to play with so thought we should see what happens.” Colourmusic was soon after joined by Oklahoma natives Nicholas Ley (Flaming Lips, Brothers Griin) and Colin Fleishacker and became known for their explosive dynamic live act.
Colourmusic have produced four studio albums F, Monday, Orange, February, Venus, Lunatic, 1 or 13 (2008), My ____ is Pink (2011), May You Marry Rich (2014), and their fourth album Swimsuit (2019), and have worked with Grammy award-winning Engineer Craig Alvin and Grammy-nominated Chad Petree (Shiny Toy Guns). Stylistically Colourmusic have always been cinematically inspired and their music explores everything from psych-tinged folk, sexy noise rock, dreamy electronic, and even includes a collection of original Christmas songs.
“The Oklahoma music scene is an untapped gem,” said Ley. “We’ve always felt lucky to be a part of it.”
Colourmusic are currently working on multiple projects, including their fifth studio album.
