Kristen Rachelle is the host of Born and Bred, a show on New Country 98.5, Canyon Star Television and Outlaw Network.

How did you get started?

I studied broadcasting in college, but left to study something else and put broadcasting behind me. Twenty years later, a friend of mine needed an on-air personality to start immediately at his radio station. I filled the spot never expecting to stay, but almost ten years later, here I am, loving radio!

Did you always want a career in the music industry?

I’ve always loved music. It’s been a big part of my life. Staying close to it and working around people in the music industry has been a dream. After all, I believe it’s music, not money, that makes the world go around. It unifies people, brings peace, makes you think and makes you feel.

What is your role in the music industry?

I am an on-air personality that has a specialty show. I showcase and promote Oklahoma artists and music.

Most Recent Successes / Placements / Accomplishments / Projects? Career highlight?

Career highlight is getting to support Oklahoma artists and expose them to new people via radio. Usually, radio only pushes top 40 artists. I am so happy that I got radio to support our Oklahoma artists.

What is your favorite Oklahoma music venue, music store or recording studio?

I love The Orient in Blair, Oklahoma! Favorite venue. And Millstreet Tavern in Ardmore. They both heavily support local artists.

Networking and connecting with others who share your dream or vision is a vital aspect to the music industry. Can you share which Oklahoma organizations (if any) have contributed to your success and are there Oklahoma organization you would recommend other connect with? To help further their craft or promotion?

Of course! SoundsOK! is the one and only networking situation valuable to artists. Their focus is promoting Oklahoma music.

How can we follow you?

Advice for someone interested in working in the music industry.

Don’t wait until you feel you’re good enough to get out there. Go out there anyway and perfect your craft along the way.

What are some of the benefits of having a music career in Oklahoma?

We have amazingly talented musicians, but we need more focus and exposure for them!

Favorite quote (if applicable)

I’m going to use a song. If you don’t remember Mike and the Mechanics, you are younger than me😆

“Don’t yield to the fortunes you sometimes see as fate. You may have a new perspective on a different day, so if you don’t give up and don’t give in, you may just be ok.”
