Planet Thunder Productions is a production company that strives to produce thoughtful, imaginative and memorable films of any length or genre in an environment that encourages and respects creativity. The company was founded by Jacob Leighton Burns, Vinnie Hogan and Zachary Burns who first met at Oklahoma City University where they bonded over a love of storytelling and began making short films together, including “Peter and the Villain” and “Broken Boy”. After producing around 20 short films, the trio produced their first feature film, “The Fable of Shannon Cable”, written and directed by Vinnie Hogan, which premiered at the 2013 Austin Film Festival.
Most recently, Planet Thunder premiered their second feature film, a sci-fi thriller called “Electric Nostalgia” written and directed by Jacob, at the 2016 deadCenter Film Festival, where it received the award for Best Oklahoma Feature. “’Electric Nostalgia’ was such an incredible Oklahoma experience,” said Vinnie. “From our collaboration with an all local cast to participating with over 200 donors – most of whom are from Oklahoma – it was an incredible experience that only could have happened in our home town: OKC.”
Planet Thunder is constantly looking for ways to engage the community in their projects, which is what led them to create a weekly web series called “Talkies” that features interviews with leaders in the film and arts communities in Oklahoma. “We’re a tight knit community of filmmakers in Oklahoma, and everyone just wants to see everyone else succeed,” said Zachary. “There’s a real attitude of loyalty and helpfulness that brings out the best in everyone.” Jacob adds, “We are continually shocked and amazed by how much we were able to accomplish with so little, and it’s all thanks to the support we received from the Oklahoma community.”
Currently, they are developing their third feature film which will be a kid’s adventure called “Werewolf Scouts” with plans to go into production in Summer 2017.
