Film Artist for October 2019: Joshua Miller

Joshua Miller has been working intermittently in the Oklahoma film industry since 1995 after joining an Oklahoma acting agency as a child. He acted in a series of commercials and pilots, directed a few television shows, experimental films, and commercials, before leaving the industry to finish his degree in literary writing with a minor in theater.

Miller spent a decade traveling the nation in the commercial construction industry as a builder, project coordinator, and estimator, before returning to the film industry as a ghost writer for screenplays.

In 2011, he and his partners formed Zenawood Entertainment through which Miller produced and directed 10 films, multiple music videos, and wrote a handful of shorts and features.

“My life before working in the Oklahoma film industry was very difficult,” said Miller. “The film industry has given me meaningful work that allows me to lead a happier and better life.”

Often referred to as a “filmmaking swiss army knife”, Miller now divides his time in the industry working positions in the art and special effects departments. He started his year as a construction coordinator and an art director. Recently, he has personally built sets for Oklahoma produced feature films “Minari” and “Pale Door”, some of which he also helped burn on camera. He was also recently a property master for “Sick Girl” and “Birdie”, both of which were also produced in Oklahoma. Occasionally, Miller can be seen acting or doing stunt work, writing his next screenplay, and helping lay the groundwork for some future projects.

“The industry here in Oklahoma has been a beautiful adventure, full of friendly and hardworking folks. I love to work and there is nothing I love to work in more than the entertainment industry. This wouldn’t be happening without the Oklahoma film incentive. This state has changed my life forever.”
