Film Artist for July 2019: Eleni Fleming

Eleni Fleming studied Film & TV Production at the American College of Greece in Athens and moved to Oklahoma in 2015. After a workshop at the New York Film Academy in the fall of 2016, she returned to Oklahoma and got her first job as a locations assistant for the feature “Wildlife” that filmed in Enid.

Since then, Fleming has been invited on jobs all over the country, from Oregon to Montana, Utah, Louisiana and more. Even though all of those places introduced her to some amazing landscapes and wonderful crew members, nothing compared with being able to utilize her skills in Oklahoma. Fleming has had the privilege of working with some of Oklahoma’s finest crew members on the features “Wildlife” and “To the Stars”, and in doing so, has seen some of the most beautiful nature and quirky towns that this state has to offer.

“Oklahoma has so many diverse and unique landscapes and towns that I believe any movie could find what they are looking for right here,” said Fleming.

As a locations professional, she’s had the pleasure of going one on one with people all over Oklahoma, talking to them about the industry and the importance of welcoming productions into the state.

“The people of Oklahoma are some of the nicest, kindest and most helpful people I’ve ever met,” said Fleming. “Usually when you start scouting, you feel like an outsider invading someone’s home and privacy. In Oklahoma, I have never had to deal with that feeling. The moment I knocked on someone’s door and talked to them about our project, everyone is so open to working with us, helping us out and making us feel welcome all around! We’ve even had neighbors bring out fresh baked cinnamon rolls for the whole crew at five in the morning before!”

Fleming has primarily worked in the locations field, but also as a production assistant in an effort to learn as much as possible about being an assistant director, a position that she would like to explore further in the future.

“Nothing makes me happier than seeing the industry in Oklahoma grow as much as it has over the past few years. We have all the resources a production might need and some amazing crew to bring those projects to life. I cannot wait to see what the future holds for the film industry in this state!”
