Lance McDaniel is an Emmy–nominated filmmaker from Alva that has worked on 21 feature films, including Oscar winner “Million Dollar Baby”. He has written, directed and produced six features, four shorts and a virtual reality film. He has worked as 1st AD on seven features, and he managed Oklahoma’s largest film festival 2010 – 2020, as Executive Director of deadCenter Film.
“Moving back home from Los Angeles fifteen years ago was the best decision I ever made,” said McDaniel. “Oklahoma is a state of yes. There is a statewide community of artists, filmmakers, investors, politicians and community leaders that work together to grow the film industry. All around you are people that want you to succeed, and want to help you however they can.”
This summer after leaving deadCenter, McDaniel launched McDaniel Entertainment, a new film and media production company, and started work on his latest feature film, a hip-hop holiday dance movie called “Finding Carlos”. The film is loosely based on the Nutcracker and follows sixteen-year-old Carlos and his father as they travel around Oklahoma, exploring different styles of dance and music. “Finding Carlos” is currently showing in theatres and streaming online throughout the month of December thanks to a partnership with deadCenter Film Delivers the Arts, a new virtual cinema.

“There has never been a better time to work in the film industry in Oklahoma,” said McDaniel. “Our political leaders understand the value of the industry to the state; local and outside investors and studios recognize the financial opportunity offered here; our crew members are more experienced, better trained, and more frequently employed than any other state; and, the world is starving for interesting, entertaining new content. Come join the fun!”
