Film Artist for April 2018: Rebekah Bell

Rebekah Bell is a Production Designer, Art Director and a doting mom of an energetic two-year-old. Originally from Morris, Oklahoma, she has a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from The University of Oklahoma in Theatre. Growing up Bell loved being in school plays and dreamed of working in Hollywood. While attending film school classes at Oklahoma City Community College fifteen years ago, she finally found her calling in the Art Department on Fritz Kiersch’s and Gray Frederickson’s feature film, “The Hunt”, and has since become one of the top Production Designers and Art Directors in the state. Bell has worked primarily in Oklahoma and Los Angeles over the years and says she prefers Oklahoma because “Oklahoma has always been home for me, my family is here and my heart is always with my family”.

From dramatic westerns and modern cowgirl movies, to heart-pounding thrillers and deeply emotional dramas, Bell loves storytelling through creating detailed sets. Of her work she says, “My job is to create believable environments that forward the story and allow the audience to get lost in another world for a couple of hours. If I could tell my young self that I would actually grow up to work in movies, I would have been thrilled!”

Bell, now residing in Oklahoma City, is currently Art Directing a feature film based in Norman, “The Turkey Bowl”, with newly Emmy-Nominated Director Greg Cooledge and fellow Emmy Nominee and Writer Kirk Ward at the helm. The romantic football comedy film stars Ryan Hansen, Alan Ritchson and Matt Jones, and is shooting until mid-April. About her current project, Bell says, “One of my favorite things about working at home is that you meet people like Mandy Davis from the Chamber of Commerce in Purcell, who has gotten her entire community involved in putting on a small town parade to showcase their city in ‘The Turkey Bowl’. It’s people like her that make me proud to be working in the Oklahoma film industry and I want my son to grow up and see that he can do anything he wants for a career, even make movies like his Mama.”
