Innovation Insight: Chickasha Economic Development Council

The Oklahoma Film + Music Office’s “Innovation Insight” series profiles a variety of Oklahoma film and music professionals who have found creative ways to continue their craft or businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic. As we continue adjusting in these uncharted waters, our creatives around the state continue finding innovative ways to use technology and we agree with their mindset: “The show must go on”.

December’s Innovation Insight features the Chickasha Economic Development Council, who partnered with local professionals to boost the popular annual holiday attraction, the Chickasha Festival of Light, in an innovative marketing strategy. This collaborative project included film and music artists, including Oklahoma duo The Imaginaries (Maggie McClure and Shane Henry), and music video producer Reagan Elkins of Intellego Media. The music video for The Imaginaries’ new holiday single “Hometown Christmas” featuring the Chickasha Festival of Light released November 2020 and has gleamed national and global recognition. 2020 has presented an opportunity to increase innovation and Chickasha Economic Development Council has demonstrated the effectiveness and marketing potential of city leadership collaborating with local businesses and local tourist attractions, in addition to these film and music professionals. Efforts made by the council have resulted in fresh attention for this annual, open-air holiday event.

Over the years, Chickasha has become renowned for the sparkling “Chickasha Festival of Light”. Named by Forbes Magazine and USA Today as one of the best light displays in the United States, the free Festival Of Light is open nightly through December 31 and annually transforms Shannon Springs Park’s 43 acres into a magnificent walk- and drive-through lights display.
