SoundsOK! promotes music education, appreciation and performance in Oklahoma, while helping the Oklahoma music scene connect and collaborate.
Can you tell us about how and why you started your business?
SoundsOK! began because we saw a distinct gap in the Oklahoma music industry: there was a lack of effective and meaningful networking among professionals and a pervasive sense of confusion for those attempting to navigate the business side of music. This can be daunting for many, especially newcomers who have talent but lack the knowledge or connections to propel their careers forward. SoundsOK! emphasizes fostering connections and networking within the industry. By offering an arena for professionals, artists, producers, managers and others involved in the music process to connect, we hope to promote collaboration and innovation. The “why” behind SoundsOK! is straightforward: we believe in the power of music and the talents of those who create it. By providing the necessary tools, knowledge and connections, we strive to make the journey a little less daunting and a lot more rewarding.
What services do you provide within the film/music industry?
SoundsOK! provides a FREE monthly music mixer that helps connect music industry professionals while also educating on the business of music.
Can you describe how your company has grown to meet the needs of Oklahoma’s film and/or music industry?
Since starting as a mixer, we have now grown to be a non-profit with future plans to help the Oklahoma music scene by providing music related grants and more.
What are the benefits of basing your company’s operations in Oklahoma?
Oklahoma is a central location; a lot of artists pass through and some stay. In the past Oklahoma musicians had to travel west, south or east to have a career. We are trying to change that.
Has your company experienced growth over the last 3-5 years? If so, how?
Yes! We formalized into a non-profit organization!
What would you consider your business’s greatest accomplishment to date?
Identifying a need within an industry and stepping up to help that community.
What are you working on now/next?
We are working to have accessible grants and music event collaborations within the state.
What is your goal/vision for the future of your company?
The primary goal of SoundsOK! is to bridge a gap and create an accessible, inclusive and enlightening environment where industry professionals can connect and collaborate. The platform seeks to empower musicians and other professionals by providing them with a comprehensive understanding of the industry’s ins and outs.
What advice do you have for others who are considering starting a film or music business in Oklahoma?
Oklahoma is a great place to get your start or plant your roots. The music and film industry is not leaving anytime soon. We feel this is the opportune time to be in Oklahoma!
What opportunities do you believe await Oklahoma’s film/music industry in the future?
The future is bright. We believe more will see the benefits of what Oklahoma has to offer in both film and music.
