Boohatch Writing Workshop

April 17 - April 18

Sharpen your craft as a writer and make life-long creative connections at The Boohatch.

For this next workshop there has been a slight change in overall scope, from what previous ones have been :

The next workshop will lean more into an overall ‘creative workshop’ instead of one solely for those who identify themselves as ‘songwriters.’

There will still be a session specifically geared towards the art and craft of songwriting though, and there will be 1:1 opportunities for those who want that to work on a song with Mike. The overall purpose for the weekend will be to inspire and encourage participants to create their best work yet as writers

Over the course of two days, we will provide opportunities to look deeply at how to write through a series of 2-3 hour sessions. There will be a session to work on clear settings/sense of place and narration for characters in the writer’s work (actor, script writer, filmmaker Adam Hampton from Oklahoma) + how to cultivate flow, mood, and practice discipline to the craft (visual artist, novelist, and musician, Stephanie Macias Gibson, from Austin) + a session on rhyme, rhythm, use of metaphor or alliteration and elements of better songwriting (from Mike) + a session on honing in on your unique intentions and finding your unique voice in a creative setting (Chrislyn Lawrence).
For anyone specifically coming for songwriting, there will also be the opportunity and option to record one song in the studio with Mike.

At The Boohatch we facilitate a non-judgmental space to explore and collaborate with other writers and musicians – it is a place to feel at ease and inspired. Time spent with us at The Boohatch will encourage you to reach new heights (or depths) and expand further into your own creativity, and the art of writing.

Each day is designed to instruct and also challenge and move you. Along with the work, there will be time for solitude as well as 1:1 chats with teachers, with the final night giving you a chance to perform something at a house concert here at The Boohatch (if you choose!).

Come ready to learn, expand, and laugh.

The workshop begins on the morning of Friday the 17th, lasting all day, and then again all day Saturday.

Tuition is $550/person. A $100, nonrefundable, deposit reserves your spot. We are limiting this to 8 people.

There is ample lodging in Ada, including nice RV parks, and the amazing Turner Falls isn’t too far of a drive either for camping. We can facilitate corporate rate rooms at one of the hotels. (more on that will be released once you sign up) A welcome family-style breakfast will be provided on Friday, with ample coffee and tea, and we will cook a family style dinner on Friday night. The other meals are up to you.
