SixTwelve Relief Fundraising Album “Building Together”

The SixTwelve Relief Album,“Building Together,” is a project that joins musical artists and SixTwelve residents, Spaceface + Penny Pitchlynn of LABRYS and BRONCHO, to help SixTwelve on its ongoing mission of “Sharing Tools to Build a Better Community.” SixTwelve is a community education center located in the Paseo Arts District of Oklahoma City. Our organization focuses on education for all ages in the areas of creativity and sustainability. Up until the pandemic began, we offered a PreK program, after school program, camps, adult workshops, residencies, community events, a community garden, a community kitchen and even urban chickens right in the middle of OKC. The idea has been to learn how to take better care of ourselves, each other and the earth from the time we’re very little until we leave the planet.

Due to the COVID-19 quarantine which began in March, we were forced to close our doors, missing our spring break camp, moving the last two months of PreK and After School programming to Zoom (we cancelled all invoices) and all of our 2020 summer camps. Like most small businesses across the country, we have taken a substantial loss in revenue and while we are working to find funds to pay our employees, we would like to build the scholarship program back up in order to serve our children and families that are hurting financially and cannot afford our programming. This is why we’re embarking on this project.

Once all songs are submitted, a final mix and master will be compiled by Jarod Evans at Blackwatch Studios in Norman, Oklahoma and released on a multitude of platforms. The profits will equally be split to benefit SixTwelve’s scholarship program and another OKC nonprofit – Swat Meet, Inc. Swat Meet Inc is an organization that helps kids learn how to write and record original music and then gives them opportunities to perform through open mic nights!

If you are a student 3-17 years old, who would like to submit a song idea, or a musician or a band who would like to apply to be included in the album, please visit sixtwelve.org for more details.
