48 Hour Global Film Challenge

The 48HFP Meets World Cup!

You’re a creative filmmaker.  You can’t wait for the lockdown to be finished.  You want to show the world what you can do…

The 48 Hour Global Film Challenge gives you that chance!

We’re doing a mashup of the 48 Hour Film Project and the World Cup!  There will be online voting that determines the best film in each country, then we’ll begin the Group Stages where country winning films will be randomly assigned to compete against other country winners.  Local judges determine who the city winners are, but the online audience takes control from there.

How does it work?

It is an online Project with electronic Kickoff and Drop Off.  Participants are required to adhere whatever local government requirements and protocols are in place at the time of the Project (June 5 – 7, 2020).  We’ve seen what filmmakers are capable of in our Stuck At Home 48 challenges, and we know you will overcome any limitations presented by the current conditions.

Coronavirus Pandemic

The coronavirus pandemic may have changed our plans, but it won’t stop the creativity of you, our filmmakers.  As with our other official Projects, the winner of the 48 Hour Global Film Challenge will screen at Filmapalooza 2021 and receive a trophy.  In addition, the winner of this Global Film Challenge will be part of the 48HFP Screening at the Cannes Film Festival Short Film Corner 2021.

Who is eligible?
Anyone in or near a participating city. The GFC is open to everyone but you must live in or near a participating city. Registration will be limited to 12 teams per city.

When is the competition?

The actual filmmaking weekend will take place June 5 – 7, 2020. The top film from each city will go on to further rounds of audience voting. The voting dates are still being determined.
