Featured Locations for September 2017: OU + OSU

This month’s film locations take us “back to school” to showcase a sample of the state’s universities that can potentially set the scene for your next film or television production. Located in Norman, the University of Oklahoma (OU) boasts some of the state’s most historic “Cherokee Gothic” architecture, a term coined by renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright who upon visiting the university noted the combination of Gothic era and Native American elements featured in its design. Among the many buildings on campus, OU’s Bizzell Memorial Library (above) stands out as one of the most impressive, having recently been named one the world’s most beautiful libraries by Architectural Digest. The campus can regularly be seen in a number of live televised college sports presentations as well as various film productions, including the indie drama “Ivory” that was shot on campus in 2007.

The University of Central Oklahoma recently completed historic renovations on Old North, which ranks as the oldest building of higher education in the state of Oklahoma. The renovations preserved as much of the original building as possible, including the original facade; however, the interiors were gutted and completely remodeled. A historical classroom and territorial library on the second floor pay homage to the original Old North constructed in 1892.  The exterior of Old North was featured in the 2014 film “Rudderless”, which shot in Oklahoma utilizing the Oklahoma Film Enhancement Rebate Program.
