The Oklahoma Film + Music Office (OF+MO) is partnering with deadCenter Film and Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC) to host a free Film Fair on Saturday, April 1, from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. The event will take place on the OCCC campus and will include a Film Technology Fair, Equipment Demonstrations and a Screenwriting Seminar.
The Film Technology Fair will be held inside OCCC’s 6,000 square foot soundstage and will feature the latest cameras, lights, sound and technical equipment being used to make feature films and videos. The fair will be hosted by Oscar winner Gray Frederickson, producer of “The Godfather, Part II” and “Apocalypse Now”, and will include several OCCC professors and local professionals on hand to answer questions.
To start off the Film Fair, Steve Mathis, an Oklahoma Gaffer who created the lighting for “Patriot Games”, “Moulin Rouge”, “Wolverine” and “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes”, will lead a series of Equipment Demonstrations about lighting. Mathis will be followed by presentations every half hour about camera movement, pulling focus, rigging lights and other equipment-related discussions led by graduates and professors from OCCC.
The Screenwriting Seminar will take place simultaneously in an OCCC classroom outside of the soundstage. Greg Mellott, the director of the Film and Video Studies program at OCCC, will lead the writing seminar. Mellott is an accomplished screenwriter who wrote major Hollywood action films for Jackie Chan, David Caruso and Dolph Lundgren before moving to Oklahoma to take over the OCCC program. Since his move, Mellott has written and directed several narrative films and documentaries, winning a Heartland Emmy for “The Grand Energy Transition”.
This Film Fair is a joint venture between OCCC, OF+MO and deadCenter Film to provide ongoing education and training for the film industry in Oklahoma. OF+MO will be on sight to answer questions about the Oklahoma Film Enhancement Rebate Program and Production and Locations Guides. The event is free and open to the public.
