The Oklahoma Film + Music Office (OF+MO) is proud to announce that Paramount+ has wrapped principal photography on season one of “Tulsa King” in Oklahoma.
“Tulsa King” is the largest scripted television series to be produced in Oklahoma using the state’s production incentives under the “Filmed in Oklahoma Act of 2021.” Creating hundreds of career opportunities, filming for the series largely took place in Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Bethany and multiple areas in the surrounding regions over the course of nearly six months. “Tulsa King” also utilized the state’s recent soundstage infrastructure, including Prairie Surf Studios in Oklahoma City.
“At Prairie Surf Media, our goal was to bring a larger, more substantial industry to our home state,” said Prairie Surf Media Founder and co-CEO Rachel Cannon. “With the expansion of infrastructure at Prairie Surf Studios and a more robust film incentive, we were able to snag this series. It was wonderful to watch this crew breathe life into our studio over the nine months they were here filming ‘Tulsa King.’”
“It was a thrill to see so many Oklahomans we’d met through our programs with various partner schools coming together to help in bringing this ambitious show to life,” adds Prairie Surf Media Founder and co-CEO Matt Payne. “Productions like ‘Tulsa King,’ working in conjunction with Prairie Surf Media, really highlight what a powerful engine film can be when it comes to meaningful job creation.”
Produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios, “Tulsa King” will premiere its first two episodes via the Paramount+ streaming service on November 13, 2022, as well as broadcast the premiere episode immediately following the season five premiere of “Yellowstone” on the Paramount Network. The broadcast network will also air the second episode of “Tulsa King” on November 20, 2022, following “Yellowstone” with future episodes streaming exclusively on Sundays on Paramount+.
From creator Taylor Sheridan (“Yellowstone”) with Terence Winter (“The Sopranos”) at the helm as executive producer, writer and showrunner, “Tulsa King” stars Sylvester Stallone (“Rocky”) in his first-ever television series lead role as New York mafia capo Dwight “The General” Manfredi, who, after serving 25 years in prison, is unceremoniously exiled by his boss to set-up operations in Tulsa, Okla.
