Tonkawa Chamber of Commerce Hosts Second Annual Tonkawa Film Festival

The Oklahoma Film + Music Office (OF+MO) is proud to be a sponsor of the second annual Tonkawa Film Festival, which will be held in-person May 21-22, 2021. Committed to promoting the art of filmmaking in the heart of Oklahoma, the film festival is hosted by the Tonkawa Chamber of Commerce, and screenings will be held at Wilkin Hill on the beautiful Northern Oklahoma College campus.

The Tonkawa Film Festival will include 38 genre-spanning short films from around the world, including several selections from local filmmakers as well a special screening of the feature film “We Are What We Are” followed by a virtual Q+A with actor Bill Sage (“Hap and Leonard”, “American Psycho”). A unique feature of this event, festival attendees and visiting filmmakers will also be treated to a one-of-a-kind film festival parade on Saturday, May 22, at 12:00 p.m., which includes a tribute to Oklahoma’s farmers with tractors included in the festivities.

“The Tonkawa Film Festival is very excited to return for its second year and be able to hold one of the first in-person film festival experiences since the start of the pandemic,” said festival Director James Oxford. “After an incredibly successful first year, we are once again looking forward to welcoming filmmakers from across the country to Tonkawa to enjoy two days of screenings, including our special feature ‘We Are What We Are’ and our one-of-a-kind film festival parade.”

Handcrafted awards created by J&J Woodshop in Kingfisher, Oklahoma, will be awarded to the best films in each genre, and one film will be awarded “Best of the Fest”, which includes a $500 cash prize.

“We are proud to be first-time sponsors of the Tonkawa Film Festival,” said OF+MO Director Tava Maloy Sofsky. “We wish to congratulate the festival staff, Chamber of Commerce and Northern Oklahoma College for their collaboration in shining a spotlight on independent film, including our local filmmakers, while also welcoming new audiences to their community further showcasing our state’s renowned heartland hospitality, diverse locations and unique culture.”
