The Oklahoma Film and Music Office (OF+MO) is proud to be a returning sponsor of the Clean Shorts Film Festival, which will be held virtually through the event’s website May 1-3, 2020.
Established in 2015 by the digital media students of Choctaw’s Eastern Oklahoma County Technology Center (EOCTC), the Clean Shorts Film Festival champions the work of independent filmmakers who produce content that is appropriate for a wide array of audiences, and rewards those whose creativity excels in various categories. This year’s Clean Shorts Film Festival will stream 60 official selections of various genres from around the world, including 14 films created by Oklahomans. Additionally, the festival will also stream 13 submissions created by students from around the state for the Clean Shorts Student Fest Film Challenge.
Clean Shorts was originally scheduled to take place at the beginning of April on the EOCTC campus; however, festival organizers quickly worked to create an innovative, virtual platform to bring the festival to audiences after statewide health and safety restrictions were implemented in response to COVID-19.
“My students put a lot of work into this festival, and take pride in showing off great films from all around the globe,” said Ben Hlavaty, Festival Director and Digital Media Instructor at EOCTC. “We are excited to share our festival with the world, while practicing social distancing.”
The Clean Shorts Film Festival annually serves as the primary fundraiser for the digital media students of EOCTC to compete at the Oklahoma SkillsUSA State Competition, which showcases the best career and technical education students in the state. Thus far, the festival has provided the opportunity for 60 students to compete of which 20 were State Champions who have moved forward to the national competition.
