Friends of Rentiesville Blues, Inc., have announced seven music legends to be inducted into the Oklahoma Blues Hall of Fame (OBHOF). This year’s inductees include James Peterson, Johnny Rawls, Earnest ‘Harmonica Slim’ Carr, John Seymour, Freddy Lee Rice, Jim Donovan and Norman Stauffer as Blues Educator.
The induction will take place during the Oklahoma Blues Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Concert Saturday, May 28, at the Blues Club / D.C. Minner Museum in Rentiesville. Freddy Lee Rice and Norman Stauffer are scheduled to perform along with past inductees Miss Blues, Selby Minner, Bucky Young, Wolfman Black and Leon Rollerson. A barbeque dinner will commence at 7:00 p.m. followed by live music with the inductions being announced throughout the evening.
“Keeping the Blues Alive” awards will go to Larry Shaeffer, owner of Cains Ballroom in Tulsa and presenter of the Tulsa Blues Festival for several years, as well as Donald Robey, founder and owner of Peacock and Duke Records in Houston, recording over 100 Oklahoma and Texas blues and gospel artists.
The Oklahoma Blues Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place in Rentiesville, the childhood home of famed blues guitarist D.C. Minner, who founded the OBHOF in 2004 with his wife, Selby Minner. This year’s ceremony will bring the number of inductees near 100. D.C. Minner is also an inductee of the Rhythm & Routes Oklahoma Music Trail.
