The Oklahoma Film + Music Office (OF+MO) is finishing April with two music festivals and a songwriters festival in Oklahoma along with the Association of Film Commissioners International (AFCI) Locations & Global Finance Conference in Los Angeles.
To start off, this week OF+MO will host a booth at the AFCI Locations & Global Finance Conference April 21-23 in Los Angeles at the Marriott Burbank Convention Center. This conference is free to attend but registration is required. While in L.A., OF+MO will host the 2nd annual Okie Roundup to meet and network with Oklahoma expatriate filmmakers to discuss Oklahoma’s growing film and music industries.
Also taking place this week is the 9th annual Norman Music Festival in downtown Norman April 21-23. OF+MO will host the Oklahoma Roots Showcase at the Brewhouse on Friday, April 22, from 6:00 p.m. – 2:00 a.m. The lineup for this stage includes The Wurly Birds, Ripple Green, Joe Mack, Beach Language, Plain Speak, Costello, Foxburrows and Giraffe Massacre. All of these Oklahoma musicians performing are registered in OF+MO’s Oklahoma Music Guide, a free online directory.
OF+MO is a sponsor of the Bob Childers’ Gypsy Café, taking place in Stillwater Wednesday, April 27. Sixty-nine Oklahoma songwriters will play acoustic sets, swapping songs and stories inspired by the godfather of Red Dirt, Bob Childers. This night of musical surprises showcases Oklahoma’s best songwriting talent, culminating with an all-artist finale on the main stage at Eskimo Joe’s. The fest will also include a silent auction and merchant area on Elm St. where the street will be closed between Eskimo Joe’s and George’s Stables.
OF+MO is also proud to sponsor the inaugural Oklahoma Songwriters Festival April 28-30, the first of its kind for Oklahoma. This three-day festival will kick off with a show Thursday evening at The Blue Door, will host workshops Saturday morning at The Academy of Contemporary Music at the University of Central Oklahoma (ACM@UCO) and will conclude with a songwriter showcase Saturday evening at the ACM@UCO Performance Lab.
