“Hosea” Now Filming in Oklahoma

Hosea Productions, in association with Small Group Films and the Oklahoma Film + Music Office (OF+MO), is pleased to announce the start of production in Oklahoma City for the feature film “Hosea”.

“Hosea” is a drama written and directed by Ryan Daniel Dobson (“The Romantics”) and produced by Suzanne Watson (“The Office”) and Avril Z. Speaks (“Jinn”). The film stars Camille Rowe (“Rock’n Roll”), Avi Nash (“The Walking Dead”), Josh Pence (“La La Land”), Patrick Cavanaugh (“Mad Men”) and Oklahoma’s very own Tim Fall (“Salem”).

The film, which is utilizing the Oklahoma Film Enhancement Rebate Program administered by OF+MO, has begun principal photography in Oklahoma City. Additional photography is scheduled to occur in the surrounding region with the production scheduled to conclude filming in March.

“Ever since moving to Oklahoma for college, I have been entranced by the raw beauty of this state. From the dark red clay to the enormous cumulus clouds, there is a sense of visual drama here that would excite any filmmaker,” said Writer/Director Ryan Daniel Dobson. “The initial inspiration for this film came to me as part of my theological studies at Southern Nazarene University and while teaching at Casady School, so it seemed only right to film the movie where the idea was born!”

“Hosea” tells the story of a young call girl who is given the opportunity to lead a different kind of life when she discovers that her childhood sweetheart has moved back to town. But their relationship is put to the test in the face of substance abuse, mental illness and the messiness of true love. In the midst of that darkness, she must fight to gain a sense of self-worth and acceptance by believing there is good inside of her.

Producer Suzanne Watson also has strong ties to Oklahoma, having been raised in Tulsa. “When I was a little girl growing up in Oklahoma, I dreamed of moving to Hollywood to make movies,” said Watson. “It’s been fun to see my life come full circle and be able to bring this very special production back to my home state to be filmed! The opportunity of filming ‘Hosea’ in Oklahoma City would not have been possible without the support of OF+MO and the incredibly hardworking crew base Oklahoma provides.”

“There is value in Oklahoma natives and expatriates returning home to create and invest in both our state’s indigenous film industry and overall economy,” said OF+MO Director Tava Maloy Sofsky. “Ryan and Suzanne’s decision to bring their film ‘home’ speaks volumes to the effectiveness of the Oklahoma Film Enhancement Rebate Program as it provides more job opportunities for our local film industry members and continues the growth of our infrastructure.”
